How to Change your G Suite Password

Learning to be a good digital citizen is important for all of us. We all have our "real" lives and our "digital" lives. How we choose to act (or not to act) in either of these two lives can impact the other. We lock our doors, our cars, and put PINs on our bank accounts. What would you do if you lost a key or had your bank card stolen? Of course you'd quickly change your locks.

Sadly, when you lose the key to your digital life the warning signs are not as obvious. If we don't pay close attention, there are those out there who can spend days, weeks, or even months meddling in our electronic business.

Would you like someone else pretending to be you online?
We are about to look at how to create a strong password and then how to change a G Suite password. Please do not post student passwords anywhere physically or digitally.  This is essential to maintaining properly secured accounts for our students.

 What Makes a Strong Password?

Before we show you how to change your G Suite password, let's take a moment to talk about how to craft a strong one to replace your weaker password.  In a perfect world, your password would be:
  1. Long
  2. Random
  3. A mix of capital and lowercase
  4. Including numbers
  5. Containing symbols (if allowed).
Something like this...
Ww)<c<&8EC8#$J/bsYHFayYu
Now this might just be me, but I wouldn't be able to remember this password when I was prompted to enter it. So here are some tips to help you create a strong memorable password:

  • Pick an acronym to help you like: NASA, SCUBA, (or make one up)
  • Include unrelated words
  • Start and/end with a symbol (or put one anywhere in there)
  • Include numbers
So let's follow these tips to craft one.

  • LBPS
  • Laughing Blimps Produce Steam
  • Laughing Blimps Produce $team
  • 7 Laughing Blimps Produce $team
Our final password would be:
7LaughingBlimpsProduce$team
